Casa Julio Restaurant – Entrance

Eating in a good restaurant facing the sea, almost with your feet in the sand, is a wonderful memory that one should take if one stays in Alicante. In Casa Julio, on the Niza Av. that runs along the first line of Playa San Juan, its regular customers know this very well. This restaurant, run by a young team that is the third generation of the same family that founded it, defends this way of disconnecting from the rush and stress.

What appears to be a typical chiringuito beach well arranged, turns out to be a surprising good restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine. Casa Julio has a very basic philosophy: market food, first quality products, fresh, and of the area: seafood, rice, meat and fish. Eva says that her restaurant “comes from the legacy her grandparents left her, some huts on San Juan beach that people would rent, until it became a restaurant.” Third generation that has managed to maintain the taste for the authentic with a modern, comfortable place and, as Eva explains, “with a smile always for the client, so that he is at home”.

Located literally on the sand, but next to the promenade that runs along the beach, the building is white, decorated with a blue band that gives it a marine atmosphere. The first thing you see upon entering is a nice collection of souvenir photos on the walls of the entrance. Do not forget to check them out to see the authentic origins of this restaurant. It has an outdoor terrace on one side and another glazed terrace on the front.

The food is traditional Mediterranean with a strong presence of seafood and its star product is rice in all its versions. They offer very complete set menus that are always an excellent option to get to know their cuisine.

The wine list is surprisingly long (about 300 references) and varied. We can find from classic references to the most innovative wines. The bottles rest in temperature control cabinets and are served at the correct temperature in suitable glasses. The sommelier of the place is Angel, an extraordinary professional.

There are many people in Alicante who know about this place, which can be called without any doubt “a classic”, so it is highly recommended to make reservations even in winter, especially on weekends and holidays.

One of my favorites. Do not miss it.
